Bio

Dr. James J. Song is the director of the Bay EyeCare Institute, providing quality specialist eye care in the Bay Area. Dr. Song graduated Cum Laude with "Distinction in Research" Honors from the University of Michigan Medical School, then went on to complete his specialty residency training in Ophthalmology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Song is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and California Medical Association. He holds the distinction of being the first resident at Washington University to administer topical anesthesia for cataract surgery. Dr. Song speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese.

In addition to caring for his patients, Dr. Song enjoys swimming, mentoring students, and spending time with his family.

  • Visual outcomes of presbyopic correcting intraocular lens implants ( Panoptix, Vivity, Restor, Technis and Crystal lens) in pathological ocular conditions (glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and epiretinal membrane)

  • Comparison of visual outcome of bilateral Panoptix/Vivity,  bilateral Restor with hybrid Panoptix/Restor Active Focus, hybrid monofocal/multifocal presbyopic corrective intraocular implant. 

  • Analysis of visual outcomes of implantation Restor Active Focus and Vivity Intraocular Implant in post-myopic Lasik eyes and post-hyperopia Lasik eyes.

  • Comparison of visual outcome of multifocal intraocular implant in extreme long axial length eyes (high myopia) with extreme short axial length (high hyperopia).

  • Predication of reflective outcome in extreme short axial length eyes with pre-operative and post- operative aqueous depth by Lenstar. 

  • Increased accuracy and predictability of LRI (Limbal Relaxing Incision) in correcting cornea astigmatism in cataract surgery by using profile view in Zeiss Corneal topography

  • Wearable medical device for physiological data collection specializing in ophthalmology.
